Hurricane Irma wasn't as bad as they predicted. But if you had a fence... You pretty much no longer have that fence. Pretty much all the fences were destroyed. Trees fell over. But house damage and car damage were pretty minimal, unless a tree fell on top of your house or car. However, all 37 Florida counties lost power. They sent in 9,000 people to restore all the power to Florida. Most of them weren't even Florida workers. But they came over to help. Which is incredible. I live in Pinellas County. And Pinellas County had the most workers getting the power back up. JUST for Pinellas County, they had 3,000 workers attempting to restore power. Which is more than any other Florida county. If you take the remaining 6,000 workers and divide it by the other 36 counties, you're looking at 166 workers per county. Which is PHENOMENAL that we had 3,000 workers in our county.
We lost power on Saturday night, around 10:30pm. My area was a little weird. Monday night, half of our neighborhood had their power restored. The other half, however, still didn't have any power. Our house, unfortunately, was one of the houses that didn't have power. No internet, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning, no way to charge my phone, and I could BARELY send text messages. Which sucked, because I had to rely on text messages JUST to talk to my boyfriend. It killed me. Thankfully, the neighbor across the street (Sue) had power and offered to let my family stay with her. We stayed with her all day Tuesday, all day Wednesday, and until 1pm today. Which was incredibly nice of her to let us do that. Especially since all the motels and hotels that had power were completely booked. Our power came on, around 1pm today. So we went back home, as soon as our power came back on. Sue's house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. She stays in the master bedroom (Of course). And she lives by herself. So that left us with the 2 other rooms. One room is relatively small and has a pair of bunk beds. My mother slept on the bottom bunk bed and my niece slept on the top bunk bed. My father slept on the sofa, in the living room. And I had the other bedroom all to myself. That bedroom was AMAZING. It was almost like a second master bedroom. The bed was a double size. It had a private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. And the room was TWICE the size of my room. And I got it all to myself. As soon as I got into the room, I immediately charged my phone and bugged my boyfriend with NUMEROUS video calls. I'm just so happy that my boyfriend let me video call him as much as I wanted. It made me feel happy, knowing that my boyfriend was right there.
It took an hour before our house finally cooled down. But now our house feels amazing. And I'm so happy that I get to be back at home. All of my boyfriend's stuff was on my bed. So coming home and seeing all of his stuff was amazing. His favorite shirt, that he permanently gave to me, still smells like him.
I get to see my boyfriend in 34 more days! Which feels like it's taking FOREVER to happen. But I'm trying to be as patient as possible. He's going to be here from October 18th until December 20th. Then he's coming back in February, for Valentine's Day. And he'll be here until May. Our 1-year anniversary is May 21st. But Mother's Day is May 13th. So we're HOPING that he might be able to stay until our 1-year anniversary passes by, since his mother is always at work anyway. But we'll have to wait and see. It'll be my first time spending Thanksgiving, my birthday, Valentine's Day, AND Easter with someone that wasn't family. And IF he can stay for our 1-year anniversary, then it'll be the FIRST anniversary I've ever spent with someone (In person). So I'm excited for that, too. Fingers crossed that he can stay for that long!
